Youth In Today's World
Youth in today’s world face many challenges and opportunities. Students learn many things in a regular school day, some of it on the curriculum and some of it from their daily environment. The “Be the Change” program works by encouraging students to express themselves and to interact in social groups that they might not typically seek out. One key to teaching tolerance and acceptance is giving people a chance to interact and learn the value of differences. Stimulating Interaction and Conversation
Be the Change uses a series of experiential activities to stimulate interaction and conversation between individuals and groups in a typical school environment. By allowing students to see one another in a new light they learn not only about one another but from one another. Learning from your peers sets a tone for people to get along and to appreciate their differences.All Lodestone programs start with an ice breaker component and build throughout the program. By taking small steps students are able to integrate learning and new experiences at their own pace. Once participants gain new skills and acknowledge the influence that individuals can have they are ready to share their talents and continue the process. W.H. Danforth stated early in the 20th century that “One enkindles spirit can sets hundreds on fire” It is our hope that participants come away from “Be the Change” with a new energy and passion for making changes in their lives and communities.
Diversity
Diversity is not a just a word, it is a concept that when used to learn and grow will help all individuals to learn and to contribute. Too often individuals do not realize the strength of diversity. “Be the Change” is designed to empower individuals to make a commitment to life long learning, build resilience, and make positive contributions to their communities.
